Hope: On 8 September 1916 Tipu and the other recruits hastily made their way through the deep turk lane. It is being built by the pioneer battalion, behind the front line in France, where they are supposedly safe. One of the soldiers asked if Tipu was okay and he said ¨Yes iḿ fine” but actually he wasn't okay.

Michael:on 8th of September 1916 Tipu and new recruits were making their way along the deep trench that they call turk lane. One of the soldiers asked “Tipu are you all right”, “I'm fine” Tipu says. But Tipu wasn't fine, Tipu was shocked by the smell and chaos and the soldiers that passed. Ahead of Tipu was a little group that was digging through the mess that the shelling had caused. One of the soldiers shouted Tipu!! “It's Rongo, he’s covered in dirt/mud”. Rongo tells Tipu “you don't know how good it is to see you, young brother. Tipu and Rongo hugged each other, Tipu kept his arms around Rongo tight. “How is everyone at home?'' asks Rongo.





Eh Htoo: In 8 September 1916 Tipu was a new recruit walking throw the turk lane with the new recruits then Tuip saw his brother they hugged then Tuip got a shovel and diged lot of people.   

Davlyn: the 8th of september Tipu and all the other new recruits speedily went down there trench which was called the turk lane.

Maria: On the 8th September 1916 Tipu and his Recruits were on their way to what they call it the Turk lane. The

Miss Ashley: Tipu finally got to be in the war after he turned 20, so he went to the Western Front where the Pioneer Battalion was. He was reunited with his brother Rongo at long last, but was overwhelmed by the conditions in the trenches - dead bodies, the smells, injured soldiers and chaos.

How long has passed since we last read about Tipu and Rongo? What has happened since then? Where are the two boys now, and how is each one feeling?
3 August 1915 - 8 September 1916 - 14 months had passed.
Tipu - his birthday  (20th), went to Egypt for training then was sent to France
Rongo - sent to France.
What is ‘turk lane’? Explain.  It was built, provide pictures to help explain.
It's a 8 kilometer trench made in  France and made by the pioneers battalion New Zealand soldiers. The trench was finished at midnightc 16 September. Heaps of people had to die, and were prepared because they had to dig while getting shot at.
Who was the Pioneer Battalion? Soldiers from New Zealand. Their job was to go ahead of the army, and make a trench.
Describe how Tipu is feeling (refer to paragraph 3 on page 20).
Shocked because of the smell and the people that had passed.
